This course will focus on warm season frontal precipitation on the wider Baltic region.
This course will enhance the skills in:
- Recognising the frontal systems using satellite images;
- Using satellite soundings for monitoring the temperature and moisture structures within the fronts;
- Using satellite derived precipitation products for frontal cases;
- Effective use of radar for detecting precipitation;
- Skills in using NWP guidance for precipitation forecasts.
Topics of the course include the typical challenges forecasters need to deal with frontal conditions over their forecasting area. An essential part of the course is to work on case studies that help you to refresh your skills in using the satellite and other products when working in weather forecasting.
The Baltic+ course is a joint initiative of the National Meteorological Services of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Ukraine, who join forces in order to increase the knowledge in skills in the use of satellite observation data and to create a platform for exchanging ideas, applications and knowledge.
