I forgot to mention, the Gibbons paper is a chapter from "Instructional Design Theories and Models, Volume III (2009), edited by Reigeluth and Carr-Chellman. And excellent reference. Volume II is still worth having as well. Volume one is only good for historical reasons at this point, but I like it. Like men's ties, instructional theories sometimes come back into fashion.
