Greetings!

The next CALMet Online 2012 session, Educational Assessment: Crafting Effective Multiple-choice Questions, begins on October 1. Don't let the title fool you into thinking that this is too simple a topic for experienced trainers. Tsvet Ross-Lazarov, is an expert in assessment analysis and will challenge your question writing skills. Join a highly interactive, 1.5 hour webinar on Tuesday, October 2 at 14:00 UTC when participants will analyze multiple-choice assessments and share their insights. During the webinar, you'll need access to the CALMet Online 2012 site (https://classroom.eumetsat.int/course/view.php?id=174&topic=0#section-4) and a microphone and speakers.

The live presentation will offer advanced tips for writing effective multiple-choice questions, introduce strategies for the analysis of question statistics, and will discuss ideas for discouraging academic dishonesty in online assessment.

Register for the webinar (https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/810422425) now and share a short post in the "Challenging Assessment Problem" forum (https://classroom.eumetsat.int/mod/forum/view.php?id=4438).
Over the course of the 3-week session, the participants will practice the ideas and recommendations from the live presentation through a series of challenges presented in forum posts.  Online resources to assist everyone with the challenges will be provided.  Each challenge should take less than an hour to complete.

We hope you can join us!

Many thanks to the nine participants who joined the live session on Creating Effective Multiple-Choice Questions today!  A recording of the session will be posted soon for those of you who were interested but could not attend.

As mentioned during the webinar, I will post several question-writing challenges on the forum for the session.  The challenges will help you practice the ideas we discussed in the webinar within the context of your work.  Please subscribe to the “Question Challenges” forum at this link: https://classroom.eumetsat.int/mod/forum/view.php?id=4438

I have made available three handouts to help you with the challenges.  You will find them below the forum.

I look forward to reading your posts and working on the challenges with you.

Thank you!
