Assessor training workshops

Good afternoon,

One of the steps towards creating an effective competency assessment process is to ensure that we provide adequate training for our assessors.  Here in Canada, we decided to base our assessor training on the following core elements:

  • Familiarization with the standard competencies (in our case the Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster competencies established by the WMO/ICAO)
  • Review of Quality Management System principles
  • Introduction to auditing principles (including how to control the assessment, tips/best practices for conducting the assessment)
  • Introduction to communication skills (including listening techniques, and asking open-ended questions)
  • Practice session

If you have had any experience with assessor training, it would be great to hear from you.  How are training sessions for assessors organized in your organization?  What sorts of topics are covered in your training?  Who conducts these training sessions?

Or perhaps you have not been involved with assessor training workshops, but are interested in creating something like this for your own assessment process.  What ideas do you have for designing an assessor training workshop?

 Cheers,

Natalie

Hi,

I belong to the last part of your post, we are about to start the process of training assessors.
Your list is very helpful to our planning, as well as the points you showed in your presetation on how to select people.

I hope to share our experiences in this forum soon!

Cheers,

Erik
