DIY weather stations and weather data cloud services

While Dr Alexey Umnov demonstrates Arduino-type devices in his presentation, an Easy to use guide on how to create a weather station using a Raspberry Pi platform attached to some electronics is available online from Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) funded project.

These weather stations, simple or sophisticated, can be connected to an Internet cloud for data storage and analysis. UK MetOffice offers such service:

And RMetS offers some ideas how the WOW data could be used in the classroom: http://www.metlink.org/observations-and-data/wow/

In a Russian-speaking community, there is also a platform to accumulate weather observations from enthusiasts: http://narodmon.ru/ (EN interface is available if not run authomatically).

Just wondering if you ever come across similar solutions in your countries and environment. Share your experience!

Dear collegues,

The information about WOW and NARODMON is correct but they are only clones of Wunderground.com website. This network has more than 200000 weather stations around the world. You can see the map.

Most of the weather stations are from the list, but they can be hand made too.

Best regards,
Vladimir
