This satellite applications course in English language is suitable for forecasters in Africa, independent of their work experience. The course will consist of live sessions and discussions between more and less experienced forecasters. The focus is on basic interpretation of satellite images in weather rooms and in using widely available satellite products to get a better understanding of the daily weather.

You will improve your skills in : (a) Identifying the main weather systems and features in Africa and their characteristics in satellite imagery and products; (b) Using information from the new generation weather satellites and c) Being a competent user of virtual course technology.

As a participant, you will develop professional relationships with other course participants, get connected to satellite professionals ready to help you to understand the basic satellite products and to become a proficient user of satellite products in your daily work.

Ce cours sur les applications de la météorologie satellitaire pour la prévision immédiate vous aidera à améliorer vos compétences en matière d'identification des principaux systèmes météorologiques en Afrique et leurs caractéristiques. Il vous apprendra également à utiliser l'imagerie et les produits satellitaires pour le suivi de la convection, du brouillard, de la poussière et des nuages bas et pour faire la prévision immédiate (prévisions à une échéance de 0 à 6 heures). En outre, il vous permettra de développer des relations professionnelles avec les autres participants au cours et d’explorer l'utilisation d'une variété d'applications web et mobiles pour communiquer et apprendre ensemble.

This satellite applications course for nowcasting will help you improve your skills in identifying key weather systems and features found in Africa. You will learn about using satellite imagery and products for monitoring and nowcasting (forecasting in 0-6 hour time range). You will develop professional relationships with course participants and explore the use of a variety of web and mobile-based applications for communication and learning together.

[EN] In light of the current global call for social distancing, the 2020 course will be conducted exclusively online, with facilitators adjusting the delivery method and the assessment methods and tools to continue to engage with participants and to effectively teach satellite applications and skills. The online course will take place from 4 May to 26 June 2020.

[FR] Les années précédentes, le cours sur les applications satellitaires comprenait une phase en ligne et une phase présentielle  dans les différents centres d’excellence en météorologie satellitaires(CoE). Cette année 2020, vu  l’appel mondial à la distanciation sociale dans un contexte de Covid-19, il n’est pas prévu une phase présentielle et le cours sera dispensé exclusivement en ligne. Les animateurs du cours ajusteront les méthodes de prestation, ainsi que les méthodes et outils d’évaluation afin d’assurer un enseignement efficace et efficient pour imprimer aux participants  les connaissances et compétences requises en matière d’applications satellitaires.  Le cours en ligne se déroulera du 4 mai au 26 juin 2020.

This online facilitated course teaches forecasters how to identify various synoptic-scale and mesoscale systems and features and their characteristics in satellite imagery. The systems and features include: anticyclones, ITCZ, tropical lows, convective systems, dust storms, fog and low clouds. Note that the course only addresses system/feature identification in satellite imagery; it does not cover forecasting.

L'Ecole Africaine de la Météorologie et de l'Aviation Civile (EAMAC) en coopération avec l'Organisation Européenne pour l'Exploitation de Satellites Météorologiques (EUMETSAT) organisent cette formation au profit des utilisateurs de la communauté météorologique africaine. À l'issue de ce cours en ligne qui sera destiné pour des participants francophones, un cours en présentiel aura lieu à l'EAMAC, à Niamey.

L'objectif de ce cours sur les Applications Satellitaires de base en météorologie est d'optimiser l'utilisation des données des satellites météorologiques et d'accroître les connaissances et les compétences des formateurs et prévisionnistes météorologiques, contribuant ainsi à l'amélioration continue des prévisions.

La Direction de la Météorologie Nationale (DMN) du Maroc en coopération avec l'Organisation Européenne pour l'Exploitation de Satellites Météorologiques (EUMETSAT) organisent cette formation au profit des utilisateurs de la communauté météorologique africaine. À l'issue de ce cours en ligne qui sera dédié pour des participants francophones, un cours en présentiel aura lieu à la DMN, à Casablanca.
